On the occasion of his visit today to the General Directorate of Defense Equipment and Investments, the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias in a statement referred to “Agenda 2030”, which, as he said, provides:

-In 2030 the Air Force will have 200 modern 4.5 and 5th generation aircraft, with the gradual retirement of 3rd and 4th Generation aircraft” and

– Strengthening and modernizing our fleet. The program to acquire the new FDI frigates is already underway. “But the participation of our country in the design and construction here in Greece of the new Constellation-type frigates is being considered, he added, as well as the optimal solutions for the interim period are being sought. We are also proceeding to create a defense innovation ecosystem by utilizing the Hellenic Innovation Development Center, EL.K.A.K., which we are establishing with a piece of legislation that will be passed by the Hellenic Parliament in the next few days. We want to change the reality that exists “we buy foreign weapons off the shelf”. To strengthen our own defense industry and to proceed with advanced productions of force multipliers,” he reiterated.

“We are trying to create a new reality for the Greek Armed Forces and I am absolutely convinced that in this purpose, in this goal, we have the support of the entire political system and especially of Greek society”, concluded the Minister of National Defense.

Afterwards, Mr. Dendias visited the general directorate of National Defense Policy and International Relations (GDPEADS), where he was informed by the director general, ambassador e.t. Michael Spinelli and the relevant directors, regarding the implementation of the National Defense Policy, for issues of international relations and defense cooperation agreements, as well as for issues of international organizations under the responsibility of the Ministry of National Defense.
