Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated Greece’s support for the accession perspective of the Western Balkan states, during the meeting he had earlier at the Maximos Palace with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić. For his part, Mr. Spajic described our country as a strategic ally of Montenegro.
Government sources emphasize that during the meeting the will to strengthen bilateral relations, especially in the field of economy and investments, was discussed. After all, the prime minister congratulated his counterpart on the progress that Montenegro has achieved in this direction in recent months. According to the same sources, Mr. Mitsotakis underlined that Greece will continue to provide expertise and all assistance to Montenegro to support this progress which is important both for Montenegro and for the wider integration perspective of the Western Balkans.
Following are the introductory statements of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Milojko Spajić.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis
“Nice to meet you, Prime Minister. It is a great pleasure to welcome you. Unfortunately, I will not be able to perform in Delphi this year as I will be traveling tomorrow. It is a pleasure to meet you to take stock of the progress made in our bilateral relations in recent years and I understand that we can do much more in terms of economic cooperation. And to congratulate you on your commitment to implement the necessary reforms to bring us closer to the European family.
You have made great progress and I think that should be recognized and we will continue to support you along the way. We know it is complicated and difficult, but we see you and your country as a positive example in the Western Balkans in terms of keeping your commitments, and I believe that your success is a wider success for the Western Balkans. Again, welcome.”
Milojko Spajić
“Thank you very much for such a warm welcome. We Montenegrins really feel at home in Greece. I believe we are very close to Greece. We feel that we have common ties, culturally, historically and in other areas.
I consider Greece a strategic ally for Montenegro. It is a country with which we share the same values and want to cooperate in the field of trade. This is an important issue for me. I focus a lot on the economy and economic development of Montenegro. It’s one of the primary issues we’re here for.”
