About the pathologies of the Greek police and the problems that the Corps has to deal with in the modern era, the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis in discussion with the journalist of the newspaper “Kathimerini” Pascho Mandraveli, in the context of the 9th Delphi Economic Forum.

But there is the emergence of phenomena that need a new way of management: political, social, criminal”, said the Minister.
He went on to point out that the police manage problems that have existed for many years but that have now taken on other dimensions (domestic violence, violence against minors, etc.) and added that “it takes time to be able to manage the social issues that arrive at the Ministry’s door as criminal actions”.
“The Police needs a big, overwhelming change, a renaissance. There is often a bureaucratic assessment of incidents. The big bet and for me personally, who have passed through this Ministry for the fifth time, is to put the Police on a new trajectory”, he explained.
For the incident at A.T. Agioi Anargyro commented: “It was a tragic development of an operational effort with too many problems and loopholes that I do not want to analyze now. Everything will be examined and will be rendered responsibilities where they belong».
When asked about the use of weapons, Mr. Chrysochoidis said that a review is needed.
“We need to revisit issues related to personnel management, staff evaluation and frequent staff competency testing.”
Finally, he added that the tender process is underway for the acquisition of 2,000 cameras to be installed in vehicles and vests of police officers who are “on the front line”.
