It starts European School Program for the distribution of fruits, vegetables and milk as signed by the Minister of Rural Development and Food, George Georgantas the first implementing contract concerning schools primary education of the Regions Attica and Of Western Greece.
The program is implemented with national and EU appropriations totaling 16,522,366.68 euros. The EU expenditure, for the years 2020/2021, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023, amounts to 14,308,710 euros and the national expenditure 2,213,656.68 euros.
According to the announcement of the Ministry of Regional Development, the implementation of the program aims to increase the consumption of fruits-vegetables and milk in diet of children and the adoption of healthy eating habits by children and for this reason a comprehensive project has been envisaged with four interdependent and complementary actions:
– Free of charge distribution of fruits and vegetables in schools: The selection of products is based on their seasonality and availability,
– Free of charge distribution of whole pasteurized milk,
– Measures / Actions Promotion and Evaluation and Accompanying Educational Measures aimed at promoting the consumption of fruits, vegetables and milk to students,
– Electronic platform with a digital educational program aimed at promoting the consumption of fruits, vegetables and milk to students.
The first of the tenders, whose executive contracts are signed within the next few days, (with the first for the Region of Attica and Western Greece, to be signed signed on KIMDIS today 21/2) concerns the distribution of fruits and vegetables in the following geographical areas :
ZONE: Attica Region: includes schools of North, Central, West, Athens Sector, West Attica and Piraeus,
ZONE B: Region of Central Macedonia: includes schools of Thessaloniki Regional Unit,
ZONE C: Region of Western Greeceincludes schools of Patras and neighboring areas,
ZONE D: Region of Crete: Rethymnon & Heraklion EPs are included.
