Velopoulos: “Mitsitokis put Beleris on the ballot to please Rama” – Theoharis: “Mr. Velopoulos’ anxiety is that he will be left with a begleri”
An intense confrontation between the president of the Hellenic Solution, Kyriakos Velopoulos and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Haris Theoharis, caused today in the Parliament – where the bill for the new tax code is being discussed – the ND ballot for the upcoming European elections of June 9, with the participation of of the mayor of Heimarra, Fredis Beleris.
Velopoulos: “Mitsitokis put Beleris on the ballot to please Rama”
The political thermometer between the two men rose when Mr. Velopoulos argued that Mr. Mitsitokis put Mr. Beleris on the ballot to curry favor with Mr. Rama and thus open the back door to Kosovo, betraying Serbia, Cyprus and Thrace.
At the same time, he accused the ND of patriotism, claiming that all its anxiety is how to stop the explosive rise of the Greek Solution in the European elections, while he spoke of a “catwalk ballot and celebrities”.
“You can comfortably play games with Rama but you can’t play games with the Greek Solution. You are patriotic. Our ballot paper was made without petty party expediencies, with hard-working Greeks. We’re not doing a catwalk. You are vassals of foreigners. We are free and God willing, on June 9 you will get a big cuff”, said Mr. Velopoulos.
Theoharis: “Mr. Velopoulos’ anxiety is that he will be left with a begleri”
The Deputy Minister of Finance immediately reacted, objecting that Mr. Velopoulos’ political anxiety from Mr. Beleris’ participation in the ND’s European ballot paper is that he will be left with a begler and will see political opportunities lost.
“The criticism of the ND’s European ballot paper, which has really caused a sensation since it was presented, is because it embraces the whole of Greek society, it has people with political experience, with youthful vigor, it has women and men, people of giving, of philanthropy, of the peasantry, who are recognized and accomplished, each in their own area”, emphasized Mr. Theoharis and added:
“What really concerns Mr. Velopoulos, and it hurt him politically, is the fact that ND has included in its European ballot, our expatriate from Albania, Freddy Beleris. A man who symbolizes the rights of Hellenism in Albania, the struggles and battles that all of us Greeks of the center and the Greeks of the diaspora must fight. A man who symbolizes our unwavering faith and support for the rule of law and carries the heart of Europe.”
“Consequently, Mr. Velopoulos’s political stress and anxiety are more than obvious. Ever since the ND took Fredi Beleris on its ballot, it fears that it will be left with a political begler to monitor the developments and see the political opportunities being lost. This is his anxiety”, concluded Mr. Theocharis.
