The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Christos Staikouras, refers to the projects that have been implemented in the last period of time throughout the country, as well as to important irrigation and anti-flooding projects that are in the study, financing or implementation phase, in his article today in APE-MBE.

In detail, Mr. Staikoura’s article

The infrastructure projects, European, national, regional and local, it is necessary to plan and implement them with the basic criteria of economic efficiency, social reciprocity and positive externalities.

Infrastructure projects of all levels have been and are being carried out in the country.

In the current period, for our part, we seek to achieve complementarities between the projects, their timely completion and the achievement of high standards of safety, quality, durability and efficiency.

The major infrastructure projects that are being completed or are being developed, such as the Aktio-Ambrakia highway, the E65 highway, the Patra-Pyrgos road, the BOAK, the new airport in Kasteli, the Metro in Thessaloniki, Line 4 of the Metro in Athens are indicative etc., monopolize the public interest.

However, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport also shows its interest in special, regional and local infrastructure projects.

In this direction, we implement and/or launch, at the same time, a multitude of projects throughout the territory, which solve specific problems, and have economic and social dimensions, improving the daily life of our compatriots.

For example, in recent months:

  • We inaugurated school facilities in Nea Filadelfia, Nea Makri, Lykovrysi and Peristeri, put into use the Kestekide Greek School in Brussels, and founded the new Two-Year Kindergarten of Praliou Astros.
  • We set the stage for the restoration of the Council of State building in Arsakeio Megaro.
  • We are implementing the energy upgrade of the Court of Auditors building
  • We build or renovate Courthouses in Rethymnon, Heraklion, Kos, Lamia, Volos, Karditsa, Trikala and Tripoli.
  • We are planning new Police Stations in Patras, Karditsa, Veria, Lefkada and Alexandroupoli.
  • We rebuilt the Bridge of Leaves in Evia.
  • We delivered the pedestrian bridge to Palataki Haidariou.
  • We handed over the road axis Kalloni – Sigri in Lesbos.
  • We scheduled the reconstruction of the heliport in Samothraki.
  • We promoted the improvement of the Fishing Vessel Port in Neos Marmaras, Halkidiki.

Important irrigation and anti-flooding projects are also in the study, financing or implementation phase:

  • The Asopou Dam in Corinthia.
  • The Pinios dam in Ilia.
  • Irrigation and water saving projects of the Municipality of Oleni.
  • Dam and reservoir of a water transport pipeline in the municipality of N. Triglia in Halkidiki.
  • Automation and telemetry systems to control leaks and save water and energy of the TOEB Nigritas irrigation network in Serres.
  • Construction of the Heraklion irrigation network in Fthiotida.
  • Energy saving and leakage control of the DEVA Thermi Irrigation Networks in Thessaloniki.
  • Flood protection and rainwater network projects in Nea Makri, Attica, as well as in Oreokastro, Thessaloniki.

It is a set of smaller projects, which is constantly enriched, with a strong regional, local, developmental, social and environmental footprint.

These projects expand the productive base of the economy, improve the quality of life of farmers, young people, workers, and socially vulnerable groups, facilitate the daily life of all citizens and, as such, promote the much-needed decentralization and the strengthening of the effort to deal with of the demographic problem of national importance.
