ND Member of Parliament, Yiannis Oikonomou, emphasized that the decision taken on the night of the tragic incident to bring in all those who were at the stadium that night was of key importance for yesterday’s arrests for the murder of the police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis.

“There was no doubt among the Police officers that the planning, the method, the actions, possibly even many persons – without having been identified from the first moment – were repeated. That is, the EL.AS officers had seen them before. in a slightly smaller or larger such intensity several times.

I remind you that one week before the tragic incident of the murder of the policeman, we had the incidents in Volos, where we also had naval flares thrown. Therefore, there were very clear indications that these are groups with some of them involved in repeated such incidents.

From the first moment, for the State and EL.AS. it was a priority and a duty of honor to get to the bottom of the thread of this story not only with the natural perpetrator, but also with everyone involved or involved in this act.

A key role in reaching this was the choice made on the night of this tragic act to take everyone who was inside the stadium to Metagogon. This move, to bring over 400 people, which provided critical raw material to the prosecuting authorities, in combination with a series of other moves – the evidence we presented to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court – enabled EL.AS. with a very methodical work, from that point on, with the absolute support of prosecutorial and judicial authorities – of Mrs. Adeline who took over the coordination, as the head of the entire investigation – and an immovable political will from the Government and the leadership of the Ministry of Protection of the Citizen to get to these arrests, in the case file.

Let’s take an important step, so that they are brought to justice and given the charges, the punishments through those that are provided for all those who are involved in the tragic incident of the murder, but also in similar incidents that are connected and led EL.AS. in the arrests.
