Israeli forces killed one Palestinian and wounded two others, including a child, during operations in Jericho and neighboring refugee camps in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian health services said.

There is currently no comment from the Israeli military on this incident, one more in a series of violent incidents that have taken place in the West Bank since the start of the war in Gaza.

The victim, 44-year-old Sadi Issa Galaita, was standing outside his home in Jericho watching the soldiers conduct operations, but he was not involved, said his uncle, Shafiq Galaita. “He was standing in the doorway, watching. My son asked him to come in, but he replied that he is far from what is happening. A sniper shot him from above, in the chest, three bullets were fired at him but only one hit him and he died on the spot. He didn’t do anything, nothing,” Jalaita told Reuters.

Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the two wounded were hit by bullets in a separate incident in the Aqabat Jabr refugee camp outside Jericho, where residents said youths threw stones at soldiers and there was a limited exchange of fire.

Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank in clashes with Israeli forces since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023.
