The Turkish Foreign Ministry says that the statements are against international law
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey expressed its displeasure through a statement on the occasion of the statements of officials on the occasion of today’s anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
It is recalled that on the anniversary, the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and the Minister of Defense, Nikos Dendias, made statements. At the same time, the American president, Joe Biden, also issued a statement, in which he says that “today, we pause to remember the lives lost during Meds Yeghern, the Armenian genocide, and we renew our promise to never forget.”
In particular, the Turkish Foreign Ministry talks about one-sided statements that “distort” historical events, even stating that they are against international law.
In the same announcement, in fact, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey states that these statements undermine the reconciliation efforts between the two communities.
The announcement of the Turkish Foreign Ministry in detail:
We reject the one-sided statements about the events of 1915 that have been made to satisfy certain radical circles. These statements, which distort historical facts, are also against international law. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has clearly underlined that the events of 1915 are a legitimate subject of discussion,” the Turkish ministry said in a statement.
These biased and biased statements about history undermine reconciliation efforts between the two communities and encourage radical groups to commit hate crimes. We call on all parties to support our proposal for a Joint Historical Commission and the normalization process that has begun with Armenia.
