“We are not afraid to go to Church and no one can scare anyone,” answered the government representative, Pavlos Marinakis, during today’s briefing for political editors, when asked about Mr. Velopoulos’s exhortation for MPs not to go to church.

In particular, Mr. Marinakis stated that “if we can say that something positive has come out of the rhetoric of violence, it is that the masks have fallen” and added that parties that entered Parliament with the flag of the church proved that in practice they show the complete opposite.

“These attitudes do not express the Church, overall it shows its true face with its actions and we must keep this image”, added the government representative.

Responding to a question about the confrontation that has erupted with SYRIZA on the occasion of the failure to submit a memorandum to the Areopagus against the Spartans, Mr. Marinakis repeated that “we are talking about a party that could not find a hall for four years for Golden Dawn, they did not vote for the amendments, we are talking about the party that did not file a memorandum for the 2023 elections and filed late for the 2024 elections. It is clear that SYRIZA is fishing in murky waters.”

Asked about the same issue and Ms. Meleti’s candidacy, Mr. Marinakis emphasized that “there is no suspicion that Ms. Meleti has anything to do with the extreme right, it was a show and Ms. Meleti decided to ally with a party that fought the extreme right.”

Regarding the criticism of the candidacy of Fredis Beleris, the government representative emphasized that “it is sad that parties use extreme elements from another country. We have heard this from people who want to fight Mr. Beleris in Albania.”

Mr. Marinakis, responding to a question about reports according to which Greece will assist France with the Crotale defense system at the Olympics, the government spokesman said that “if requested by our allies for a certain period of time and will not put in endangering the defense protection of the country, this will be done, but always after coordination and agreement between the two sides. I repeat, we always talk about a certain period of time and when there is something new there will be an update.”
