“There is no danger at the moment” regarding the supply of our country with natural gas, said in a TV interview in the news bulletin of Alpha, the government spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou.

Of course, the quantity we import is not through the pipeline that passes through Belarus and Ukraine. “It’s from the southern pipeline that supplies us and other countries with natural gas.”
He added, however, that “we must be prepared for even the most negative scenarios. Such scenarios and possibilities for dealing with the situation, we discussed today at KYSEA. Our country has taken all the necessary measures, whether they concern the increase of the supply with LNG, or concern the operation of the power plants, so that we do not have a problem, or the better management to deal with possible problems.
First of all, we must be absolutely opposed to anything that goes against fundamental values of international law and constitutes a violation of territorial integrity. And what happened to Ukraine, constitutes a violation of the territorial integrity and fundamental rules of International Law. Our country has nothing to fear. Greece is a member of NATO, it has very strong international alliances. What is happening confirms our strategy to invest in strengthening our deterrence capability and in our international alliances. The defense of the country is both a priority and an end in itself. And it’s good for everyone to understand. “Perhaps what has been happening lately will help some people to reconsider their views on our national issues”, Mr. Oikonomou underlined.
On energy prices: “In the face of this situation, no one should feel left alone”
Referring to energy prices, the government spokesman stressed that “we are already facing a very unpleasant and unfavorable reality. Households, businesses, are facing enormous difficulties in terms of energy price increases. We are all concerned that these developments with Russia may further aggravate the situation. We have already intervened in terms of price increases, allocating 2 billion from September until now. About 350-400 million for February “.

We fully understand the very difficult situation in which the whole of Greek society finds itself, especially those of our fellow citizens who have lower incomes. That is why the support policy is expressed at various levels. “Through strengthening the income, through the continuation of the tax reliefs, the second increase of the minimum wage, through the support in the energy, but also in the planning of targeted supports where we endure and for as long as we endure”, said Mr. Economou.
