In detail, the announcement of the Speaker of the Parliament Konstantinos Tassoulas:
“A multifarious political personality “left” shortly before the Resurrection of the Lord.
Phoivos Ioannidis, a proud Cretan, was born in Sitia, studied law and was a leading member of the anti-dictatorship struggle in Crete, an action for which he was arrested and imprisoned.
He faithfully served the place he loved so much as a Member of Parliament for Lasithi with PASOK from 1989 to 2004.
He was Deputy Minister of Social Insurance in the government of A. Papandreou, as well as Deputy Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology and Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Insurance in the governments of K. Simitis.
In the Hellenic Parliament, he demonstrated a particularly active presence and action, serving, among other things, as a Parliamentary Representative of PASOK in 1997-1998, Chairman of the Committee for Revision of the Constitution of the 7th Revision Parliament in 2000 and Chairman of the Parliament’s Institutions and Transparency Committee in 2002.
Foivos Ioannidis, with his multifaceted political personality, action and experience, will be missed from the political life of the country.
I express my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
