“There is no reason to go to the European elections and after the European elections in this climate of toxicity of polarization and division” added Mr. Marinakis
“There is no precedent for vulgarity,” said government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis during a briefing for political editors in response to a question about Mr. Kasselakis’ statement about “ministers who murder children” regarding the tragic accident in Tempe.
“First of all, because it concerns the current president of the official opposition. I think that the subsequent attempt to distort reality, to insult the intelligence of the citizens, makes the whole matter worse. It is unthinkable what was said,” he said.
“There is no reason to go to the European elections and after the European elections in this climate of toxicity of polarization and division” added Mr. Marinakis, stressing that some SYRIZA executives condemned his view while Panagiotis Kouroumblis was in favor.
“In Mr. Kasselakis’ SYRIZA, toxicity is not a component, but a dominant line,” he emphasized, adding that “all those who came to power in this way not only did not solve any problem, but did the exact opposite.”
On the issue of his coming to Greece Eddie Rama he said that the government was informed on Tuesday, May 7 and that he has not been informed of the place where the event will take place.
Mr. Marinakis repeated that his issue is not bilateral Fred Beleris. “It’s a question of the rule of law, the presumption of innocence and the need to have a fair trial,” he said.
“With his candidacy, that is, with actions and not words, we want this to be heard throughout Europe. The issues of the rule of law, human rights, respect for the presumption of innocence are dominant issues,” he said, emphasizing that the candidacy of Fredis Beleris symbolizes the practical targeting of the government in the defense of all these just demands.
“He is the legally elected mayor of Heimarra and has not been able to take the oath for a year and we want this to be heard throughout Europe. The ND at the level of MEPs has raised it and passed unanimous resolutions. It has also been raised in Summits,” he said.
Regarding the publication that refers to pending tax matters of Mr. Kasselakis’ father, he said “we do not know, nor could we know”.
“In general, what we say is self-evident, that all citizens must be consistent in their tax obligations, especially when it turns out that there is a possibility from their lives. I cannot know the details, nor can I adopt what the publication says about a citizen who is in Justice. This will be resolved by the judiciary,” he said, emphasizing that “we will not become SYRIZA. We cannot bring issues of relatives of political figures, of our political opponents into the political confrontation.”
Finally, answering a question about the leaking of the emails, the government representative repeated that the ND has no involvement in the issue. “There is no issue with Mrs. Kerameos, the truth is that if a week passes without the opposition asking for her resignation, we will worry that something is happening,” he said. He also attacked PASOK citing the statements of Ms. Liakoulis and Mr. Mantzou and noted “Before the findings are complete we see PASOK denying itself from the different statements of executives which are based on untrue reports”.
“From SYRIZA, we were used to this, but to hear PASOK, before seeing the results, making criticisms and assigning political responsibilities to the responsible minister only to form an opposition, we did not expect this. Self-restraint is needed,” he added.
