As a comedy entitled “Letter to Von der Leyen”, speaking tonight in Veria, the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, described Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ announcement regarding the letter he is about to send to the President of the Commission on the accuracy.

“In June, in his first interview, when Mr. Mitsotakis was elected prime minister with 41%, he said that he will not allow Greece to become the banana of the multinationals that are profiting off the backs of the Greek people. And today he accepts that he is a banana? He accepts that he is unable to defend the powerful financial interests, sending a letter – communication lifebuoy to Ms. Von der Leyen” specifically mentioned Mr. Androulakis and added: “The responsibility of controls, fines and normalization of the market to stop the inflation of the oligarchs’ speculation is in the hands of the Greek government. If they can’t, there is a way: PASOK – Democratic Party, because we both want and can clash with these interests that Mr. Mitsotakis has been caressing for years.”

Mr. Androulakis cited the finding of the Bank of Greece regarding the existence of oligopolies in energy, food and private health.

“76% of private health services in Greece are two financial interests. Oligopoly in health too. And what with the memoranda, there was no fiscal space. We had a very difficult situation with big cuts. But now we have the Pandemic Recovery Fund. What did Mr. Mitsotakis do for the NHS? Primary Health Care Network? Resident doctors? Inclusion of the health workers in the heavy and unhealthy as they promised and mocked them? What were the major government interventions in health? Our people pay the highest out-of-pocket costs for their health in the Eurozone and the second highest in Europe of 27, surpassed only by Bulgaria. We were third, we came second and you can be sure that with Mitsotakis as prime minister we will become super champions in terms of health costs throughout Europe of 27. Because quite simply they don’t believe in the National Health System”, he noted.

“Five times we tabled an amendment on the heavy and unhealthy, but New Democracy did not accept it. We submitted a proposal that concerns the demographic, for women – freelancers and farmers who did not have a strong maternity benefit. They voted it down. They brought it and implemented it a few weeks ago”, noted the president of PASOK-KINAL.

Mr. Androulakis underlined that PASOK-KINAL has a proposal for all issues , because, as he said, “I aspire that the relationship of trust we are building with the Greek people is not ad hoc, it is a permanent relationship of trust. The people want solutions and PASOK’s victory on June 9 means the well-being of the Greek people, support for young people, perspective and hope for everyone. We don’t want the Greece of the pass. We want the Greece of institutional interventions. When we propose institutional interventions, we are talking about the new EKAS so that 350,000 low pensioners are in dire straits”, pointed out Mr. Androulakis.

“The policies we propose are policies that have been evaluated in other states. That is why they refuse to debate. One does not know the issues. The other knows, but what can he say? That he got 41% and within a year we had huge disasters from climate change – Evros, Thessaly, Rhodes were destroyed – accuracy, scandals, wiretapping, Tempi, cover-up? How will Mr. Mitsotakis come to the debate? What to say to the Greek people? That he will send a letter to Ms. Von der Leyen and for health? And for education? And for Tempe? And about the wiretapping?’ asked the President of PASOK-Movement for Change emphatically.

“So, because the answer to all of this is “41%,” on June 9 let’s denounce the arrogance of the 41%. When a prime minister tells you “vote me again in the European elections, because there is a risk of instability”, while he has 121 seats more than the second party, he has probably ridden a huge stick, my friends. With your vote, let Mr. Mitsotakis get rid of the rod of arrogance who has the audacity to blackmail the Greek people with instability” he commented regarding the dilemma of stability that New Democracy is deploying.

“Let everyone evaluate what has happened in these ten years, when we expected to leave the memorandums and have better days. We live one of the same: Client state, arrogance, corruption, impunity. What led us to the memos is still here, showing that a very large part of the political system is unrepentant and does not serve the national and public interest. And we have a duty, you and we and all of us, in the next three weeks to fight, village by village, house by house, in every workplace to strengthen the democratic faction. This faction will be the port of hope, anxiety and perspective for the entire Greek people” concluded Mr. Androulakis.

Referring to national issues Mr. Androulakis said: “When Mr. Mitsotakis included Mr. Beleris on his ballot, I came out with courage and said that it is wrong. And it is wrong, because you cannot partisanize a national issue such as the protection of the Greek ethnic minority of Northern Epirus. The minority wants Beleris as mayor, Mr. Mitsotakis, and not as a tool to deal with the leakage of your voters to the extreme right, as the executives of New Democracy admitted. What was the result? Mr. Rama came to Athens. Redemptions, challenges. Pyrrhus Dimas, the son of Beleris, comes out and says that he came to provoke the Greek ethnic minority of Northern Epirus. And the government replies: “no comment, private visit”. Is this serious diplomacy?

Or is it serious diplomacy that a month ago Ms. Bakoyannis brought a resolution for Kosovo to join the Council of Europe and at the same time in Athens Mr. Gerapetritis said he disagreed? Is this serious diplomacy for the Western Balkans?

Or is the own goal from the SYRIZA locker room serious diplomacy? He says to bring the protocols to a vote now, while the president – the holder of the highest office of the neighboring country – says: “which North Macedonia? Macedonia”. Now is the momentum for Mr. Kasselakis? In other words, let’s justify her already.”

Mr. Androulakis criticized the government’s inaction against the Turkish President’s declared intention in 2020 to turn the Chora Monastery into a mosque. “The protection of world heritage is not only a Greek matter. It’s a global issue. Even today, Turkey is considered an accession country. What were the interventions of the government after the damages suffered by Hagia Sophia? And something else. Will the visitors of Agia Sophia and the Monastery of Chora be able to see the mosaics? Of course not. These are all issues that should be a top priority and not swept under the rug, because they are difficult for some people.”
