Extraordinary meeting of the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 5.30 in the afternoon – Evacuation plan for expatriates


According to diplomatic sources, Nikos Dendias is convening a meeting of the Crisis Management Unit at 5.30 pm, against the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, while contacts with the ambassadors of the United States and other countries will follow.

It is emphasized that the Greek Embassy in Kiev and the Consulates General in Mariupol and Odessa are making every effort to remain in constant contact with the Greek citizens currently in Ukraine.

As stated, “there is an evacuation plan, not announceable given the need to protect those who want to leave. Of course, the plan is being updated based on the data on the ground and will be announced accordingly. “

It is noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued two announcements (on 14 and 22 February) in which it strongly discouraged all travel throughout Ukraine, advised Greek citizens in the country to leave immediately and urged those Greek citizens seeking assistance. for their departure from Ukraine to contact the Greek authorities in Ukraine.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, has convened a meeting of the Crisis Management Unit, which will take place today at 5.30 pm. Then, at their request, will have communication with the US Ambassador at 19:45 and a meeting with the Ambassadors of Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia at 20:15. At the same time, tomorrow, early Thursday morning, he will have successive meetings with the Ambassadors of France and the United Kingdom. He will then travel to Brussels to participate in the Extraordinary Foreign Affairs Council, which will take place tomorrow at 16.00 (Greek time).

Finally, it is noted that the General Secretary Themistoklis Demiris will call again the Russian Ambassador.
