Men, in their fifties, lawyers, university students, doctors and journalists, are the predominant profiles of the candidates who make up the European ballot papers of Greek partiesaccording to its new policy text Center for Liberal Studies (KEFIM).
According to the main conclusions of the analysis and of all the candidates, 58% are men, 42% women. The average age is 53 years for male candidates and 50 years for female candidates. 36% have finished university (without a master’s degree), 22% hold a master’s degree and 19% a doctorate.
The most prevalent professions among the candidates are those of lawyer and academic (8.4%), followed by those of doctor (7.8%), journalist (7.5%) and artist (6.5%). Finally, 18% of the candidates have been re-elected in previous elections (municipal, national or European elections), while 13% have been appointed to some political position.
By party: SYRIZA and New Left have the largest percentage of female candidates (50%), while ND, PASOK, Hellenic Solution, and Niki have the lowest (38%). The candidates of the New Left (55.1 years) and the ND (54.4 years) have the longest average age, while SYRIZA has the youngest (48 years). New Left has the largest percentage of candidates with a doctorate (38%), PASOK has the largest percentage of candidates with a bachelor’s and master’s degree (38%), while the KKE has the largest percentage of candidates with only a bachelor’s degree (62%).
