SYRIZA-PS speaks of four “crimes” related to the Tempe accident, which demand an immediate response.

As he notes, “what the journalistic investigation of the Tempe tragedy revealed in the Mega report on Wednesday night, raises new, very serious questions that demand an immediate response from the government and everyone in charge.”

Specifically, SYRIZA states:

“Crime one: Everyone knew about the condition of the rail network, but no one did anything. The refusal of Hellenic Train to sign, as it was obliged to, the annual contracts for the use of the network, proves that everyone – including the competent ministry – was aware of the problems. The ministry and the minister at the time – K. Karamanlis, who was sitting inside the Parliament when he was called to answer about security issues – had been informed of the whole situation, both for Hellenic Train’s refusal to sign the contract and for the extrajudicial and complaints employees. And they did nothing, said nothing, took no meaningful action, on an issue that concerned the safety of thousands of people, every day. And that’s how we got to the tragedy of February 28…

Crime two: As the report also revealed, it is now clear that the commercial train was transporting, illegally, flammable materials. Combustible materials that formed the fireball after the crash, which claimed the lives of an unknown number of the 57 total casualties.”

Following these, SYRIZA asks the following:

“a) Who was the final recipient of the fuel adulteration materials (xylene, toluene, benzene) illegally carried by the train?

b) The destruction of critical evidence (video material, recorded conversations between the drivers and the station master, but also between the service agents and the firemen who were operating), as well as the immediate destruction of the crime scene, were they done for the “disappearance” ” of the particular transfer?

c) Who is the businessman to whom the materials smuggled in the fatal train were destined? Why and who is covering him?”

Third “crime”, continues SYRIZA, asking “who and why decided – and even in secret – the collection of the crime scene? Why was the famous meeting kept secret? For how much longer will Mr. Mitsotakis cover those involved with excuses that do not convince anyone?”

“Crime four: The famous editor. The entire Panhellenic nation is now so aware of the shame of the faked, edited conversations that aimed to point to the Larissa station master as the sole culprit, supporting the theory of “human error”, in which the Mitsotakis government and New Democracy continue to invest tirelessly. We also know about the 11 minutes of pause, guilty silence, which leads the lawyers of the victims’ families to believe that someone rushed to disappear audio documents. Will no one answer for these either?’

SYRIZA-PS emphasizes that “it will not stop, neither now nor ever, to raise substantiated questions about the crime of Tempe” and that “it will always stand by the relatives, who demand justice and answers to the “why” of the tragedy”. As he adds, “the government, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, his former and current ministers, must be held accountable, and they will be forced, in the end, to do so”
