The Minister of Territory admitted that this abstention also expresses a sadness on the part of the voters, a disagreement with the government’s choices
The messages given by the voters in the European elections, as well as the large percentage of abstentions, were analyzed by the Minister of the Territory, Makis Voridis speaking on Monday morning, on SKAI and on the “Today” show giving a speech for a win of ND however found that a sadness was expressed from a portion of abstention voters.
As Mr. Voridis said “the message firstly was victory, secondly, at the level of party affiliation there remains a big difference and also a very big loss of voters.”
According to him the overall judgment of what happened yesterday was “yes, a lot has been done, we want more and we have been saddened by some”.
Mr. Voridis, making an analysis with numbers about where the ND voters might have gone, argued that both SYRIZA recorded a historic low and PASOK which lost in absolute number of voters and concluded that they ultimately preferred abstinence without leaving the party.
“This voter didn’t leave… They didn’t disconnect because they do not consider that there is a reliable alternative. It is obvious that a number of issues such as the way of taxation, the incomes, the strengthening of the incomes must be addressed. This is our challenge” said Makis Voridis.
As the minister explained, the large percentage of abstentions came from “because of the laxity that existed, that they do not elect a government, that no political event follows and that I have European elections that discount a large referendum difference. This relaxes the voter.”
At the same time, the Minister of Territory admitted that this abstention also expresses a sadness on the part of a portion, a disagreement with government choices such as gay marriage, accuracy and self-employment taxation.
Asked about the initiatives that the government must take from now on Mr. Voridis replied: “We will see what are the movements in which citizens perceive that the government is not coping, does not meet their expectations and aspirations and needs further effort and strengthening of policies.”
Concerning about the persons and the possibility of a reorganization Mr. Voridis said: “The discussion about persons is a matter for the prime minister” and added: “Since the voters have abstained, there is partial criticism. The criticism has to do with the effectiveness of the policies”
At the same time, Mr. Voridis stated: “The debate about going right, center, left does not follow from the results. It seems to me that they are getting better.”
For Europe and the rise of acrodexia Mr. Voridis commented: “In Europe what happened that didn’t happen here, we have a clear movement of voters, here we don’t” and concluded “The government has a lot to do to improve its efficiency, its response to problems”.
