“There will be a more substantial analysis of the result of the European elections in the coming days”
Member of Parliament Fthiotidas, Giannis Oikonomouhe emphasized on his television that the goal is for the ND to bring back the traditional voters with a balance in the mixture of conservatism and liberalism.
Analytically:
“There will be a more substantial analysis of the result in the coming days. We are seeing a strengthening of the conservative and ultra-conservative Right. I avoid the term Far Right because it is too easy to use it and label it. In Greece we had the Far Right – the Golden Dawn, the Spartans – and we did everything we had to do to put them on the sidelines.
There is a conservative world, not only in Greece, but also in Europe, which for a number of issues – related to dealing with the Immigrant, the broader rightism that is developing, issues of religion, relations with the family, history, national policies, dealing with the climate crisis- which is alienated from the centre-right parties.
And this, in my opinion, is a problem for both Europe and Greece. It is too early to assess why A or B happened, but we cannot close our eyes to a reality.
Possibly some who abstained, chose abstention because they did not want to vote for anything other than ND at this time. This is also a very powerful message.
Although the result was not good for us, every reasonable person understands that there is no government perspective or majority government proposal or proposal from somewhere else. People here are still looking.
The Prime Minister also said that we obviously have to go in the direction of regrouping, updating the relationship with citizens who moved away from the ND for various reasons. To find them, to talk to them and above all with our policies to continue in a thread of communication that made the ND a very big party and also made the Center-Right big in Europe.
The balance of conservative values and liberal principles is the core of the center-right parties after the war and led Europe to growth and prosperity, but also the ND to be a great party and a vehicle of liberal reforms, which we must run faster.”
