With the impeachment of Pavlos Sarakis from the parliamentary group of the Hellenic Solution, a months-long series between the Parliamentarian and Kyriakos Velopoulos came to an end, with the president of the party deciding to delete him and with a harsh statement from the party underlining that “in the Greek Solution Arrogance, ingratitude, intemperance, and belittling behavior towards colleagues are not forgiven.”
In his statement, Pavlos Sarakis reverses the arrows, rejecting the characterizations of the announcement, stressing that he will continue to serve his ideas, “proudly, free and uncompromising”.
The timeline of the rupture
The crisis in the relations between the two men has erupted for a long time, with the first episode recorded last March, when Pavlos Sarakis left sharp edges for the party’s positions in the main directions of its policy, on the occasion of the bill to strengthen the legal matter, in the debate of which, he was replaced by a party rapporteur, as he expressed his disagreement with the non-voting of the draft law.
Although the rupture was prevented at the time, the atmosphere between the 2 men remained electrified, with their relationship recharging a few days ago, on the occasion of slanderous publications against Pavlos Sarakis, with him denouncing online attacks aimed at to hurt him morally. In fact, he requested a meeting with the president and vice-president of the party, Dimitra Kritikou, where, according to his statement, they assured him that they were not behind these reports. This was followed by an announcement of a truce from the party’s side, denying reports of “alleged” internal party unrest.
However, the final straw that, according to information, seems to have broken the camel’s back, was the candidacy of Galatos Alexandraki on the Hellenic Solution’s European ballot paper, with which Pavlos Sarakis strongly disagreed. Kyriakos Velopoulos decided to withdraw from the parliamentary group, with the Hellenic Solution party now numbering 11 MPs and the independents increasing to nine.
