James: “At Panathinaikos I was Robin, now Nick is coming to my team” – What he said about Brown and Wezenkov

by

THE Mike James reunited with him Nick Calatheswho was acquired for two years by Monaco.

Speaking on BasketNews’ “URBONUS” podcast, the American guard commented on the difference of his coexistence with Baskets to the Monegasques in relation to Panathinaikospointing out that at that time the Greek regional was the leader and “Robin” himself.

At the same time, he mentioned the reasons why he does not think that his possible transfer will work Lorenzo Brown to Panathinaikoswhile he expressed his desire to see him Sasha Vezenkov back in the Euroleague with his jersey Olympiakou.

In detail what he said:

For the arrival of Calathes in Monaco: “It is clear that at Panathinaikos I was Robin. Now I’m not going to be Robin. It’s OK, fine. You have to know your role and you are playing with other great players. Sometimes you have to know what to do to win.

At Panathinaikos he tried to put me in positions to succeed. He was clearly the dominant person in the team and I was fine with that, doing everything I could to help the team win. Now the team is more mine. I know how he is, I know he just wants to win, so obviously he’ll adjust.

I don’t want anyone to come to Monaco and change how they play. I want Nick to be himself, I want him to play fast, pass, try things, maybe make some mistakes, but feel as comfortable as possible.”

In the case of Lorenzo Brown at Panathinaikos: “I do not like. Gerian Grant, I believe, was the unsung hero of Panathinaikos. I think he had a very good season and it helped a lot. Sloukas, Lessor and Nunn were in the… headlines, and rightfully so because they had a really good season, but I saw games where Gerian Grant kept the team going defensively and offensively. His contribution was consistent. He was a core player on the team and bringing in another guard, I don’t know how things will go for him.”

On the transfer he would like to see completed: “I would say Vezenkov’s return to Olympiakos. It makes sense if he decides to return to Europe. I remember when I came back from the NBA, after Phoenix and New Orleans, I went straight to Panathinaikos and felt at home. I felt that’s where I should be,” he said on his show.

I know how you feel about this. When you come back, you want to feel comfortable, to be where you know you’re going to play and you know what your role is. It would fit in there. And it would be good for the EuroLeague to have some players back. I like the EuroLeague when it has 12 teams that are really good and fighting.”

On whether Vezenkov is Olympiakos’ biggest need at the moment: “No, but I like this rumor (said about Vezenkov’s return). I don’t know any other rumor that I heard and said “oh I want to see that”. I hope Keenan (sb Evans) gets well soon, I’d love to see him there. He is my favorite player to watch. I hope he recovers quickly and gets back on the field. Also, if Sasha wants to come here, I’ll welcome him with open arms.”
