The Secretary General of International Economic Relations and Outreach of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Myra Myrogianni, referred to the opportunities and challenges facing the defense sector internationally. inaugurating the Greek pavilion at the International Exhibition Eurosatory 2024, the important defense and security exhibition that takes place every two years in Paris.
In her speech, the secretary general referred to adoption European Defense Industrial Strategy for the first time in March this year, with the aim of supporting and strengthening the European defense industry. In particular, for the period 2025-2027, funding of 1.5 billion euros is foreseen to support the production of advanced defense systems through collaborative research and technology initiatives.
As for Greece, Myra Myrogianni underlined the prominent geostrategic position of our country, but also its role as a pillar of stability and security in the wider region. He also pointed out that the transformation of the Greek economy in recent years, combined with the broad reform program implemented, had the effect of turning the crisis into an opportunity and that in this context, the Greek defense industry is on a dynamic growth trajectory, with the Greek companies in the sector to take the lead in the research programs of the European Defense Fund, developing cutting-edge technologies and innovative defense equipment. With the aim of further strengthening the sector, the secretary general noted, the Greek government is implementing a comprehensive plan that focuses on boosting exports, establishing strategic alliances with important international partners and developing a Greek defense innovation ecosystem.
“We are proud of our country’s participation in Eurosatory 2024 with some of the most dynamic and fastest growing companies in the Greek defense sector. At the same time, it is of great importance that the Greek start-up entrepreneurship ecosystem is also represented in the exhibition, highlighting the potential of our country in this field”, emphasized Maira Myrogianni.
