Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met at the Maximos Palace with the European Union Commissioner responsible for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton.
During the meeting competitiveness issues of the European economy were discussedthe Single Market and European industrial policy, with an emphasis on defence.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the Single Market is not only about businesses, but also about consumers, stressing that it must operate with more competition and transparency in favor of consumers.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis analyzed the proposal, which has been formulated in his letter to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, for the adoption of legislation, at the level of The European Unionto effectively address the policy of Geographical Supply Restrictions.
He emphasized that in a single market it is not acceptable to sell similar or identical products at different prices, depending on the size of the market, harming consumers.
The European defense strategy and the need to strengthen and finance the European defense industry and production, so that the EU can reduce its dependence on other systems, were also discussed.
The Prime Minister underlined the need for joint European initiatives in European defense and repeated the proposal he has submitted, together with the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in a letter to the President of the European Commission, for the creation of a European air defense shield to be financed with European resources.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, the Head of the Economic Office of the Prime Minister Alexis Patelis, the Director of the Office of International Strategic Planning and Communication of the Prime Minister Aristotelia Peloni and Fotis Bourlogiannis-Tsangaridis, Counselor of the Embassy A’, Deputy Director of Diplomatic Office of the Prime Minister.
