Issues of bilateral and international interest were at the center of a meeting held today by a six-member bipartisan delegation of the American Congress with the Secretary of State, George Gerapetritis.

In the meeting with the delegation, led by Mark Green, Republican congressman and head of the Internal Security Committee of the Congress, Mr. Gerapetritis referred to the level of Greek-American relations, which, as he pointed out, are currently at their peak their.

He developed the basic positions of Greek foreign policy, which is a policy of principles and not transactional and is based on absolute respect for International Law, as he noted. On this occasion, he emphasized the importance of adhering to common values, such as Democracy, the Rule of Law and human rights.

A significant part of the discussion was devoted to its two open fronts Ukrainian and her Middle Eastwith Mr. Gerapetritis underlining the importance of condemning all forms of revisionism and providing solidarity to the defending Ukraine.

Regarding the war in Gauze, the goal should be to achieve a sustainable truce, open more humanitarian corridors and release the hostages, the minister noted and also referred to the need to care for children from Gaza. A condition for building lasting peace in the region, he pointed out, is the realization of the vision of the two-state solution.

Mr. Gerapetritis informed the American parliamentarians about the developments in Greek-Turkish relations and the Cyprus issue, at the same time highlighting the role of Greece as a reliable partner and a country that is a factor of stability at the crossroads of three continents.

Referring to energy issues, Mr. Gerapetritis presented the steps Greece has taken towards its energy autonomy, both at the level of infrastructure and at the level of interconnections with other countries, essentially contributing to Europe’s energy diversification and security.

Finally, he referred to the developments in European Union and in the situation that has developed especially after the European elections.
