Speaking at the 28th annual “Economist Government Roundtable” conference, Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out that the ND proved that it can have a broad appeal that combines right-wing citizens and moderate centrists
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed with Enrico Leta on Tuesday evening in the context of the 28th annual “Economist Government Roundtable” conference, at the “Konstantinos Karamanlis” Glyfada Golf Course.
Speaking about the result of the European elections and the conclusions drawn from them, the Greek Prime Minister stated that the ND remained the dominant political force in Greece, however, as he said, the government received the message sent by the citizens. He admitted that “we did not achieve the goal we set out to achieve”, explaining that there were several reasons “which I take very seriously”.
“It is not only the fatigue with the consecutive elections, we had a very high abstention, but also the citizens decided to use the European elections to send us a message of concern,” he said.
He also emphasized that national elections will be held in 2027 with the government focusing on reforms.
“I was also clear in my first term, despite the many questions there were. They were disproved, they will be disproved again. And we will be judged as a whole for what we did in our second term. The next years should aim to converge with Europe and we have three years in our term, there will be no early elections. The elections will be held in 2027,” he said.
The message of the citizens was “get to work and achieve the results you committed to”, he emphasized.
Indirectly answering his objections of former Prime Minister, Antonis SamarasMr. Mitsotakis said that in 2023 ND got 41% “and we proved that we can have a center-right party and broad appeal that it combines right-wing citizens and moderate centrists».
About her course Greek economy he said it is “growing faster than the entire European Union. Greece is an attractive destination for investments” and pointed out that there are two economic goals. “The first goal is the reduction of unemployment together with the creation of new jobs and the second is the continuous shielding of the citizens’ disposable income.”
