In today’s meeting of the Minister of Justice George Floridis with the ambassador of the Netherlands to Greece Susanna Terstal, the topics of the new judicial charter and the fight against domestic violence dominated.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Justice, the discussion during the meeting focused on “to the changes that have taken place recently in the field of Justice in Greece“, with the Mrs. Terstal on the part of “showing particular interest in the implementation of the Judicial Charter”.

In particular, the Minister of Justice emphasized that by doubling the number of first-instance judges and removing many bureaucratic procedures, the Judicial Charter is expected to have immediate tangible results, both in the speed and efficiency of the administration of Justice.

The Judicial Charter, in combination with the new Procedure of the Council of State, which will be voted on in the next few days, as well as the upcoming changes to the Code of Civil Procedure and the Code of Organization of the Courts will significantly reduce the time it takes to issue decisions“, said Mr. Floridis and added that “at the same time, the full digitization of the courts, as well as the development of out-of-court dispute resolution will decisively contribute to this».

Mr. Floridis also stated that “by the end of the year the reforms will create a new landscape in the country’s judicial system».

Special mention was also made of the provisions for dealing with domestic violence, according to the announcement, and the Ambassador of the Netherlands stated that “and in her country there is an increase in the phenomenon of domestic violence and she underlined that constant efforts are being made to protect women and children».

At the same time, Mr. Floridis stated that in Greece with the changes to the Criminal Code and the upcoming additions to combat domestic violence, there has been progress, although there is always room for improvement.

In the same spirit, he underlined the efforts made to protect juvenile offenders by introducing reformative measures, through sports and culture programs.

Finally, the meeting closed with the agreement of the two parties to deepen cooperation in the field of protection from domestic violence and exchange of best practices between the two countries regarding the reintegration of minors.
