The removal of Fredis Beleris from Albanian authorities criticizes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement, speaking of “innovative practice and the announced outcome of a process with many question marks in relation to fundamental principles of the rule of law”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes again the obligation of the Albanian authorities to take all the necessary measures in order to immediately enable Mr. Beleris, now an elected member of the European Parliament, to attend its work, starting with its Plenary on July 16 in Strasbourg.

The announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

“Today’s decision of the Central Electoral Commission of Albania to disqualify Fredi Beleris without even taking the oath of Mayor Heimarra is a new practice and the foretold conclusion of a process with many question marks in relation to fundamental principles of the rule of law.

“Greece had in time expressed its strong concern about the deprivation of the presumption of innocence, the integrity of the evidentiary process, the ban on swearing and the disproportionate penalty imposed, as well as the fact that the Municipality of Heimarra has been governed for one year by non-legalized faces.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs underlines once again the obligation of the Albanian authorities to take all the necessary measures in order to immediately allow Mr. Beleris, now an elected member of the European Parliament, to attend his work, starting from his Plenary on the 16 July in Strasbourg”.
