The Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendiaswill accompany the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in her work NATO Summit, which takes place in Washington (9/7 -11/7/2024).

In the context of his participation in the said Summit, which is an anniversary, as it marks 75 years since the founding of NATO, the Greek Minister of National Defense will attend, on the evening of Wednesday 10/7/2024, the dinner hosted by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III to the Ministries of NATO member states.

On Thursday 11/7/2024, on the sidelines of the Summit, Mr. Dendias will sign with his Bulgarian and Romanian counterparts, Mr. Atanas Zaprianov and Angel Tîlvăr respectively, Letter of Intent (LoI) for the establishment of a Harmonized Military Mobility Corridor.

The creation of this corridor follows the signing by the Defense Ministers of the letter of intent of Greece, Bulgaria and Romania, for the extension of the NATO Pipeline Network to the Eastern Wing of the Alliance, in October 2023.

By signing the Letter of Intent (LoI), the three countries express their interest, among others, in:

  • The harmonization of different national procedures
  • The reduction of the time required for the issuance of transit permits
  • Ensuring the smooth, efficient and seamless movement of military personnel and assets between the three countries, whenever required
  • The existence of a faster response, depending on the needs of the three countries.

In addition, the Letter of Intent (LoI) aims at the cooperation of the three countries within the framework of NATO’s joint Logistics support network and further upgrades the infrastructure and logistics networks in areas such as Alexandroupolis and Thessaloniki, highlighting their importance for the effective deterrence capability of the Alliance’s eastern flank.
