The Minister of State, Makis Voridis, made assurances about the country’s defense sufficiency from the floor of the Parliament, following the opposition’s reactions to the Prime Minister’s statement in the context of the NATO summit on Europe’s defense capabilities.
“No gap has been created in the defense of the country, because we have taken care of it,” emphasized the Minister of State, reading the entire excerpt of the prime minister’s interview. In fact, he explained that the Prime Minister’s reference to the “weaknesses of defense capabilities” did not refer to Greece but to Europe as a whole.
“You can guess the cleverness, why does the prime minister specifically refer to the missiles and their importance? Guess the work that the Greek prime minister is doing that you accuse him of utter treason abroad, struggling to create a comprehensive defense framework that will give jobs and production to the defense industry and you are joking here” he said and added in a biting tone: “why not are you telling the truth? since you don’t want the aid of Ukraine. Are you actually aligned with Russian interests? You come to slander, slander and distort. The people know and have approved our policies. It is the only government that has strengthened the defense capabilities of the country.”
At the beginning of the discussion in the Plenary, of the bill of the Ministry of Tourism, however, the opposition aimed its arrows at the prime minister, with the president of the K.O of SYRIZA underlining: “We have pointed out our concern many times. And then we got an answer that nothing like that will happen. And now we are talking about gaps in public space? Defense is a serious matter and the government cannot manage it with political expediency.” Kyriakos Velopoulos accused the prime minister of “utter betrayal”, with Alexis Haritsis from the New Left emphasizing: “We heard him instead trying to explain the inexplicable. The prime minister confessed what we accused him of.”
