On his TV hosted on Friday morning the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikiliaswho spoke about dealing with fires that have broken out in the country in the last 24 hours.

Regarding the fire at CorinthiaMr. Kikilias pointed out that this is a difficult area with vines and hills, where it is not easy for Canadair to operate, informing that the fire is not yet under control in the area due to small foci that may cause small flare-ups in two of its ravines area.

At the same time, the minister underlined that since the beginning of the summer, the State has been faced with more than 2,000 fires, with the statistics testifying that the climate crisis is here. “We still have a large part of the fire season ahead of us, which is expected to be the most difficult of the last 20 years, with many starts. Unfortunately, we had a very dry winter”, as he characteristically stated.

Asked what has changed this year in terms of dealing with fire fronts, he first noted that an important role is played by the fact that 10 days before the deadline, 654,000 plots have been cleared. “DEDDIE and ADMIE entered the forests after 50 years and are doing clearing zones, with a forester present, volunteers on the front line and aerials on alert, even the information about a suspected fire is wrong,” said Mr. Kikilias , informing that the number of drones flying over Attica is 27, while another 101 are expected from the 2025 fire season, within the framework of the AEGIS program.
