The announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus
An announcement on the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus was issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointing out, among other things, that the resolution of the Cyprus issue was and will remain a top national priority.
Specifically, the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states:
“This year marks half a century since Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus, which led to the occupation and occupation of one-third of the territory of the Megalopolis by the Turkish army, in violation of fundamental principles of international law.
Greece stands with respect in the sacred memory of the fallen, shares the drama of the missing and the displaced and expresses its gratitude to all those who fought bravely for the defense of Cyprus. And he does not accept empty threatsdivisive resolutions and executed on the field.
The Cyprus issue remains to this day an unresolved international issue of illegal invasion and occupation of a member state of the European Union and the United Nations. The perpetuation of the current status quo, with the existence of occupying troops, as well as the creation of two states, are not acceptable solutions for the Cypriot problem.
In solidarity with the Republic of Cyprus, Greece remains committed to the solution of the bizonal bicommunal federation, in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council of the United Nations Organization and stands by the effort of the Secretary General of the Organization to start the dialogue with the aim of reunifying Cyprus , on the basis of one sovereignty, one international personality and one citizenship. The resolution of the Cyprus issue was and will remain the highest national priority.”
