Semi-final time for the Hellas. After qualifying against Lithuania, the national team will face France (20/7, 21:30, www.sportfm.gr, ERT1, Youtube), in the “4” of Eurobasket U20held in Gdynia, Poland.
The two teams also said it in the group stage of the tournament. Papadopoulos’ players fought hard, but they bowed out in the final and that’s it suffered a 68-62 defeat by the “tricolors”. On the one hand, Greece finished the group with a record 1-2while on the other hand the French are positive 2-1.
Nevertheless, the National Team showed its potential in the next two knockout games. The first opponent in the round of 16 was Israelwhere although it had double-digit differences in the match, Greece was satisfied in the victory with a score of 68-65. In the quarterfinals, Papadopoulos’ players faced a traditional European basketball force, Lithuania. After a balanced first half, the National team took control in the second half and without looking… back, reached the victory-qualification with 87-82.
On the contrary, the French faced the Germany in the “16”, where without meeting much resistance, they crushed it with an impressive 103-78. However, the next qualification of the “tricolors” was a thriller. There, France found opposite her Spain and thanks to a terrific buzzer beater 3-pointer by Noah Penta, prevailed 74-72.
The other semi-final is between Belgium and Slovenia on the same day (20/7), with the jamball scheduled for 19:00. According to schedule the final will be held on Sunday (21/7) at 21:30 (Greece time)while the short final will start on 19:00.
