With the emblematic sign “I DON’T FORGET” for the invasion of “Attila” in Cyprus, in 1974, the Hall of the Hellenic Parliament was illuminated, as this year completes 50 years since the illegal Turkish military invasion of the Megalonis.

“We pay tribute to the brave, dead, missing and living Greek and Cypriot warriors who, in tragically adverse circumstances, defended the independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, but also the constitutional legitimacy of the Republic of Cyprus”, said the Speaker of the Parliament Mr. Konstantinos Tasoulas to a delegation of the Committee of Occupied Communities of Cyprus with whom he met in the Parliament .

The sign – symbol with which the Parliament was illuminated, was created by the writer, Nikos Dimou, on the morning of August 14, 1974, the day when Cyprus was divided by the invasion of “Attila”, with 37% of its territory to this day remains under Turkish occupation.

“I DON’T FORGET” condenses, painfully, the entire Cypriot tragedy, half a century later and even though the martyred Megalonisos now belongs to the European Union.

The iconic sign was printed on thousands of stickers, copies were sent to newspapers, the slogan “I DON’T FORGET” was translated into many languages and sent to many parts of the world where there were Greek (Greek and Cypriot) students.
