“The decisions of the Court of Justice in the wiretapping case do not simply concern the monitoring of political opponents, members of the leadership of the Armed Forces, journalists, and even ministers of the government itself, but are directly related to the democratic functioning of the institutions, not excluding the same of Justice“, commented the former prime minister, George Papandreou.

He added emphatically that the citizens, the 50 years of Postcolonialism respect Justice and the majority of Greeks believed that “there are judges in Athens”. “However, over the years, citizens found themselves faced with decisions on important cases of public interest, which severely affected the prestige and credibility of the judiciary. Consequently, they revealed the relevance of judges to the clientelistic political-economic system that holds the country and the Greek citizens hostage”, he added and emphasized: “It is obvious that, in order to be respected, the decisions of the judiciary must also be judged. It is now time, as in all institutions, also in the Judiciary, for the public officials themselves to be at the head of the nationally necessary initiative to defend their democratic function, but also their personal dignity.

No more wasted time.

There is an urgent need to put an end to the clientelistic system that produces continuous crises, injustice and inequality, which the Greeks and the country pay dearly and in various ways.”
