“Yesterday’s electoral process, after the sham cancellation of the May 2023 elections, is the formal and prescribed completion of the “Operation Heimarra” for the Albanian government. In the midst of complaints by the Greek diaspora about conditions of violence, fraud, artificial increase of the electorate and the sudden exclusion of thousands of voters, the result essentially constitutes the imposition of the will of the Albanian government in the region” notes Dimitris Manzos, State Member of Parliament and head of KTE Foreign Affairs, in a statement PASOK-Movement for Change while also referring to the responsibilities of the Greek government.

“The Greek government failed to manage the whole affair with competence and foresight, contenting himself with the dangerous “instrumentation” with small-party terms of internal consumption, with the consequence that the case risks being reduced to a “bilateral dispute” between Greece and Albania” points out D. Manzos and concludes his announcement:

“Greece was and is now even more obliged to highlight the issue in its true dimensions, as a crucial step of Albania’s accession path to the EU and as a strong indicator of the lack of progress in the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and the protection of of the rights of the Greek National Minority in Northern Epirus”.
