The possibility of elections or appeals to the base is more and more often on the lips of top SYRIZA executives from both “camps”. Each side presents its own solution, attempting to “catch” the other by sending its own message. Are both the leadership and the “87” preparing in Koumoundourou for new elections a year after the victory of Stefanos Kasselakis? Speaking to ACTION 24, Olga Gerovasili suggested to Stefanos Kasselakis to lead the party in elections. “He must address the people who support SYRIZA. He himself should take the responsibility of a leader, a president of an official opposition party and provide a solution.”

Stefanos Kasselakis was preceded in the early afternoon yesterday on MEGA, who again addressed his internal party critics saying that “if they doubt the support I have from the base of SYRIZA, let them challenge me, I have no problem”. Voula Kehagia did not rule out internal party polls either. Speaking to OPEN, he said: “The president has told the Political Secretariat that he would not like to trouble the people of SYRIZA, i.e. the base of SYRIZA, in another election contest. This, however, may not be avoidable. I don’t know, we’ll see. I can’t guess.”

It is obvious that at this moment one side is throwing the “ball” to the other. Stefanos Kasselakis, attempting to bring Pavlos Polakis to the position of an ally, provokes the “87” to question him. The internal party opposition, arguing that the crisis has been caused by the president of SYRIZA, challenges him to “redeem” the party. Both know that it will not be an easy process, as many people are tired of the constant polls. Both at the national, but also at the party level. No one can guarantee that member and friend participation will reach 2023 levels.

In the parliamentary landscape with 34 MPs now, SYRIZA feels the “breath” of PASOK, which is only two seats short. The chair of the official opposition is starting to “creak”, as with a few more crises, the party of Stefanos Kasselakis will find itself losing an asset it has maintained since 2012. At the time, in fact, when actually 12+4 MPs rang the “bell” and stood critical of his initiative to replace Sokratis Famellos, but also to do a total facelift at the office of K.O.
