The leaders of states and governments are sending a strong message in favor of holding elections and the withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya from Paris, in a last-ditch effort to end the unrest and instability in the country.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that foreign forces must leave Libya immediately.
“A necessary condition for the pacification and stabilization of Libya, without the influence of third parties, is the withdrawal of all foreign troops, foreign fighters and foreign mercenaries as soon as possible.”
The Prime Minister also added that Athens is ready to discuss the demarcation of maritime zones with Libya.
At the same time, the satisfaction of the Greek side was expressed for the fact that for the first time it participated in the Conference but also for the text of conclusions.
As stated in the draft conclusions, all parties are called upon to adhere to the timetable for the presidential and parliamentary elections that will begin on December 24.
They are also committed to implementing the action plan for the withdrawal of all foreign troops and mercenaries without delay.
There is also talk of imposing sanctions on anyone who threatens political stability in Libya. Anyone attempting to obstruct the electoral process and political transition in Libya will be held accountable and possibly dealt with by UN sanctions.
On the sidelines of the conference, the prime minister also had a four-on-four meeting with US Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to government sources, they discussed the signing of the Greek-American agreement and the excellent relations between the two countries, as well as the forthcoming visit of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the USA, in the first half of 2022.
