The Prime Minister continues his tour of Thessaly and the areas affected by the bad weather Daniel
Reduction in the price of tolls in Pelasgia by 17%, the prime minister announced from Killeler Kyriakos Mitsotakisduring his tour of Thessaly.
“Allow me to make a symbolic announcement that shows how the government understands reciprocity. A benefit arose for the Greek public from the refinancing of the concession contract for the Maliakou – Kleidis project. Interest rates fell and we found ourselves with a benefit of around 16 million euros,” said the prime minister.
“We decided with the Minister of Infrastructure to return this money to Greek society. Thus, we will reduce the tolls from Pelasgia to Kliidi by approximately 17% for cars with a total benefit of 2.8 to 3 euros for this entire route. We consider it fair to return the money to Greek society. The reduction will be effective from 1/10 until the end of 2025. I think it is a small indication of how we perceive reciprocity – it concerns movements on the busiest road”, he emphasized.
Continuing, the prime minister referred to the projects and initiatives for the shielding of Thessaly from flooding phenomena, as well as projects related to water management. Mr. Mitsotakis referred to all the projects concerning the dams, but also mountain hydrology projects, which are in progress, one year after the floods of Daniel.
The prime minister noted, among other things, that “we need more dams of all sizes”, to emphasize that “the total footprint of dams is multiple”.
“It can be irrigation, hydroelectric, and at a time when we need more dams to manage the power grid itself these projects are of huge importance,” he said.
Mr. Mitsotakis noted that these projects are very important, but also of long implementation to note that “these projects have a particularity. “Many times someone else plans them, someone implements them and someone else inaugurates them. I say this because I am fully aware that we too have launched projects that were designed by others, but were largely implemented by us. But I want you to keep this meeting as a legacy of accountability of the political system, towards Thessaly and as our obligation to prevent such a great disaster as Daniel’s from happening again.”
Among other things, the prime minister noted that it is of great importance that Thessaly should be shielded, so that it never faces such problems again. At the same time, the prime minister referred to water management, stressing that projects are needed to ensure that water resources are not wasted. “We have no right to waste water. It is water that is wasted, at a time when we know that we will have less water and we should protect it,” he noted.
