The Minister of Labor Niki Kerameos mentioned the new policies aimed at strengthening the employment of young people, women, the disabled and pensioners in the show “Mismatches” on SKAI, adding that more than 160,000 pensioners have been declared to be working.

The minister estimated that the measure went well as the 30% reservation in the pension of those who worked has been abolished. “In the last 5 years we have 500,000 more workers”, he noted.

Regarding the changes in the unemployment benefit, Mrs. Kerameos clarified that the measure that has been the same since 1950 will change as until now “it is the same, whether you work 40 or 20 hours a week”.

The changes, according to the Minister of Labor, will be made at two levels. The first will concern the change in the amount depending on the weekly working hours.

Also, the minister did not rule out linking the amount of the unemployment benefit to the employee’s salary before being fired.

OR second changeis the allowance to become “front-loaded”. As he said, in the first months it will be more and in the following months it will decrease in order to motivate the unemployed to enter the labor market.

“These are two main axes of the new unemployment benefit that we are working on,” the Minister of Labor emphasized, adding that the program will be a pilot program while it has not yet been determined when it will start. He clarified, however, that it will not concern the existing unemployed, but the young.

Digital Job card

The expansion of the digital card in tourism and catering is the second objective of the Ministry of Labor with the aim of the worker being paid for the hours he works.

Tomorrow, as Ms. Niki Kerameos said, she will have a meeting with tourism and catering agencies in order to proceed immediately.

Disability Certification Centers

According to the Minister of Labor, two changes were made in KEPA. The first concerns the disabled who will be examined once for irreversible diseases and the second the recruitment of more than 700 doctors in the centers for the immediate service of the disabled.

Finally for the pensions he said that the issuing time has increased to 1,000 per day.
