In the Council of Ministers of the European Union in the Parison the implementation of the European Guarantee for the Child, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs participates, Domna Michailidou. According to an announcement by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Greece is the first country to incorporate in its law the Recommendation on the European Child Guaranteeaimed at preventing and combating poverty and social exclusion of children and protecting their rights.
As Ms. Michailidou characteristically stated, “‘investments’ in social protection through active policies and services complementary to benefits, should be our basic strategy for reducing child poverty.”
In the frame of Council of Ministersextensive reference was made to the worrying situation prevailing in Ukraine at the level of violation of fundamental rights of children and was signed by European ministers h Declaration of March 4, 2022 for condition in Ukraine.
According to the statement, “on the initiative of Greece and the Undersecretary personally, it was proposed to take a European initiative to develop national action plans, in which each Member State records the availability of Ukraine to host and care for children.”
During her speech, Ms. Mikhailidou underlined: “Each country should undertake an action plan for children in Ukraine. About 80,000 children in Ukraine live in institutions. “It is imperative that every Member State immediately undertake the development and implementation of an action plan for the protection of children in Ukraine, which will include access to housing, food, health care and education.”
