The KKE criticizes the Prime Minister’s announcements at the TIF with its announcement.

“As much as the government and the prime minister, beset by popular discontent, try to appear to be aiming to ‘reduce inequalities’ and ‘link growth to income’, the reality for the vast majority of the people is moving in the exact opposite direction , since this is imposed by the directions of the EU and the profitability of the groups, which the government policy consistently and cynically serves.

Instead of “well-paying jobs”, with decent pay rises and collective bargaining agreements, workers are seeing their average pay down 14.81% from 2011 at a time when accuracy is “bone-breaking” and the profitability of listed companies has increased by 23.53% since 2007 and is constantly setting new records. Even unemployment benefit is being turned into a tool to blackmail the unemployed into accepting jobs without rights.

Instead of abolishing VAT and other unsustainable taxes on consumer goods such as food and energy, the government is choosing to cut taxes and levies that will ultimately only benefit large employers who demand even cheaper labor. At the same time, tax revenues, which the vast majority of people pay through direct and indirect taxes, have jumped by 24.6 billion euros in the two years 2022-2023 compared to 2007-2008.

Instead of covering the pressing needs of the people in health, education, etc., government spending was reduced by half a billion in the first 7 months of 2024 compared to the previous year, at a time when the NHS is collapsing due to shortages and schools are merging over from 1,000 sections, while even their renovation is left to the generosity of the various “donors”, which always has rewards. In this way, the goals for the monstrous “bloody” surpluses that the ND government has agreed with the EU and are not disputed by the other parties in the system are exceeded.

Instead of government programs to guarantee working-class and student housing, the government promotes tried-and-tested programs for the few, to be paid for again from the people’s pockets, while they are cut and sewn to fit the banks and construction groups.

Instead of a comprehensive policy protection plan with an emphasis on prevention, the government uses the disasters it has caused with its policy as an “opportunity” for new businesses. At the same time it promotes, in the name of individual responsibility, the generalization of compulsory property insurance at a time when state “responsibility” cannot stop a fire from reaching the urban fabric of the capital.

All of the above is not a matter of incompetence but of conscious political class choices, which sacrifice the needs of the people on the altar of the EU’s fiscal rules, the unpopular prerequisites of the Recovery Fund, the country’s further involvement in the US-NATO plans and the process of transforming the European economy into martial. This cost is already being paid very dearly by the European peoples, among them the Greek people, with new increases in war expenditures.

Real working-people opposition to mainstream politics exists and must be strengthened, only that it cannot be expressed by the consensual opposition parties, especially in the area of sinful social democracy, which are in a prolonged spiral and project this disgusting image precisely because of of their alignment with the main pillars of government policy, which has now been perceived by a large part of the people.

The real opposition was also expressed today in Thessaloniki, with the large rally of labor unions and organizations, with demands that respond to the pressing needs of survival of the popular family. The KKE will continue, in the Parliament and in society, to give all its strength to strengthen the current of questioning of the dominant policy, of the current state, to pave the way for the radical changes that the people and the country need”.
