The PASOK Movement for Change speaks of an unprecedented looting of the purchasing power of the most vulnerable and the middle classes
The Prime Minister from the platform of the TIF tried half-heartedly to patch up the mistakes of his own policies, while referring to better days for the Greek people in 2027, he comments on PASOK – Movement for Change on the sidelines of Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ speech at the 88th TIF.
He estimates that instead of “double convergence”, the overall policy of the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis is leading to divergence, as income and regional disparities widen, while based on most indicators the gap with the EU is widening.
“The irony of the so-called 12+1 development plans cannot hide the exclusion of the Greek Region from the planning of the Recovery Fund. While the prime minister left local government out of the consultation on the national plan for the utilization of the Fund, without paying attention he set the goal of reducing regional disparities in 2027. The price of the conscious choice of the New Democracy government for five years to have no plan of regional development, it is paid for by the mainly continental regions of the country which are declining and desertifying.“, he says characteristically in his relevant announcement.
The announcements, on the reformation of the housing program, he summarizes, constitute a confession of the government’s failure to deal with the terrifying rent increases caused by the policies of speculative opportunism that it implemented.
“As far as wages and the supposed protection of incomes are concerned, Mr. Mitsotakis refers … to 2027, to hide the unprecedented looting, -with the government’s tolerance-, of the purchasing power of the most vulnerable citizens and the middle classes by the vertiginous cumulative inflationary pressure over the past three years. Moreover, any reductions in taxes and contributions will not bring tangible relief to employees, due to the non-indexation of the tax scale. In this way, the government takes back from one pocket what it gives from the other“, he adds.
Finally, regarding the measures announced for the public health system, he underlines that, in no way do they address the dramatic situation that the NHS has found itself in, as the government does not believe in the public nature that the health good should have.
“The Prime Minister’s attempt to boost the morale of the conservative faction to last until 2027 was evident, but the people will not bear the consequences of his policies until then. Greek society has nothing to expect from a prime minister and a government without empathy and a strategic plan for the great problems of the country and the great majority of citizens. The time for great progressive change has come. The reliable program map that will be unveiled next Wednesday by the president of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, from the stage of the TIF will be the starting point of a new course for a resilient economy and a fair society“, he concludes.
