Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis presided today at the first inter-ministerial meeting on the implementation of the “Marietta Giannakou” program for the renovation of school facilities.

During the meeting, the main needs of the school units were examined and it was agreed to prepare an analytical database, where within the next month, in cooperation with the Local Government, the data required for the start of the projects will be recorded. Work is scheduled to begin in early 2025.

It was agreed to put absolute emphasis on the upgrading of bathrooms and courts, as well as plastering of other facilities.

A total of 250 million euros will be allocated from the Public Investment Program, while possibilities to increase the budget through donations were discussed.

The main implementing body of the program will be the public limited company “Building Infrastructure” of the Greek State, which has gained significant experience in repairing damages caused to schools in Thessaly by the bad weather “Daniel”.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of the Interior Thodoris Livanios, the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikouras, the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, the Deputy Minister of Finance Nikos Papathanasis, the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman Pavlos Marinakis and Deputy Prime Minister Giorgos Mylonakis.
