“The European Union sends a strong message that it has a comprehensive and integrated approach to development, focusing on strategic investments in important infrastructure, green transport and sustainable tourism development that improve everyday life and quality of life, ultimately bringing Europe closer to its citizens” pointed out the candidate commissioner of Greece for sustainable transport and tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, in his statement to ERT after the announcement by the president of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, of the composition of the new House of Commissioners.

In particular, Mr. Tzitzikostas stated:

“It is a great honor and responsibility to be entrusted by the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with the portfolios of sustainable transport and tourism. Transport is the backbone of Europe, having geostrategic importance for critical sectors such as trade, energy and networking while ensuring free access, movement and interconnection of citizens and regions. A fundamental right in the European Union, but also in the circulation of products and services that are keys to the cohesion and competitiveness of Europe. Also, at the heart of transport is shipping and maritime transport, which have a key role for Europe today. At the same time, the substantial upgrade of European tourism policy, as well as its connection with transport, is a very important first achievement. The European Union sends a strong message that it has a comprehensive and integrated approach to development, focusing on strategic investments in important infrastructure, green transport and sustainable tourism development that improve everyday life and quality of life, ultimately bringing Europe closer to its citizens her”.
