Elections on November 24, submission to the Central Committee and extraordinary congress on October 5-6 – Detailed timetable
With the proposal of the secretary of SYRIZA – PS, Rania Svigou, the meeting of the Central Committee started today, which is taking place in a heavy atmosphere.
Absent from the meeting is Stefanos Kasselakis who is in Arta and is expected to announce his candidacy from Monday.
The secretary of SYRIZA, Mrs. Svigou, in accordance with the decision of the Political Secretariat, proposed to the Central Committee the submission of presidential nominations by October 24 and the holding an extraordinary conference from November 1 to 3 with the object of approving the nominations and political decision text.
OR election of delegates will be held on October 19 and 20 with a measure of what was in force at the February conference, i.e. 1/40 of the registered members. The members of the Central Committee, the deputies and MEPs who are not members of the Central Committee, the members of the Central Youth Council, the members of the election committee and the ethics committee participate ex officio as representatives.
OR election of president and Central Committee will be held on Sunday, November 24 and, if a second round is needed for the presidential election, it will take place on Sunday, December 1st.
According to the proposal, “the submission of candidacy for the presidency of the party is carried out in accordance with the principles and values of SYRIZA-PS, the provisions of the statute and the decisions of the collective bodies”. Some argue that this wording will determine the future attitude of Stefanos Kasselakis. Since if he nominates, it will mean that he accepts the decisions of the bodies and thus he will not be able to challenge them.
In order to submit a nomination, signatures from 30 members of the Central Committee are required, which will be submitted to the Political Secretariat by October 24. Members of the Central Committee can sign for more than one candidate.
The Central Committee will meet again on October 5, with the subject of the pre-conference texts.
Nikos Pappas: The leaderships on the Left do not have a blank check
“Leaders on the Left are elected not to be accountable, but to implement collective decisions, all powers in SYRIZA are auditable and revocable” said, among other things, in his statement to the Central Committee of SYRIZA, the president of the party’s Parliamentary Group , Nikos Pappas.
Nikos Pappas asked for a schedule and a method to be chosen “that leans on the common acquis and reminds us why we are together in this room”. “And to remind the world why he enlisted in this effort. Beyond absolutes,” he emphasized.
Emphasizing the necessity to discuss the party’s statute, Mr. Pappas noted that “the members of the Statute Committee, experienced comrades, did a job with great effort. And they brought a synthetic proposal. Despite the different choice they make for the person of the next president, they agreed on the necessary changes.” “The party will continue to have Prefectural Committees, will organize its regional organizations, will have an elected organizational office. Shall we throw this job away? No, we have to discuss it with the grassroots”, he stressed, adding that “this work is the continuation of the effort to transform the party, which started in 2022 late, when we decided to elect the president and the Central Committee from the grassroots ». In the same context, Mr. Pappas emphasized: “and we have to think about whether the new leadership can have a blank check for the statute it will propose next. If it will be able to interpret the order as a requirement to bring its own proposals on the statute. When he will not have committed to the statute”. He underlined that “leaderships on the left are elected not to be unaccountable but to implement collective decisions” and that “all powers in SYRIZA are auditable and revocable”.
Mr. Pappas commented that he hears “talks about a coup” and that he reads “abominations about the junta”, to emphasize that “the statute does not provide for coups. It provides that leaderships are auditable and revocable.” “Such talk cannot be heard about our inner workings. The word “junta” and the word “coup” are very heavy. Here are comrades and comrades who suffered during the junta. Except for those who believe that a coup has been carried out, they will bring the proposal to remove the revocation from the statute,” he said.
Among other things, he said that “at TIF we had a coherent presence with proposals”, while he pointed out that “yesterday we announced the filing of an amendment to protect the first residence and borrowers”. He commented that “we would be much more productive if we gave them the space they should in the public debate” and also stated that “we must resist Mr. Mitsotakis’ business of historical revisionism”.
Ragousis: There must definitely be a political Congress before the election of a president
The need to hold a political conference before the election of the president was mentioned by Yannis Ragousis in his speech, warning that “otherwise the political division and introversion will continue even after the election of the President. And so the descent will continue.”
Mr. Ragousis said that upvoting the motion of censure means re-applying to the base, it does not mean a coup. Allegations of this type of diversion and coup d’état could have a basis if, after the censure, the former President was replaced by someone or something else, from the KE. “But that didn’t happen. Grassroots elections are being called,” he said.
On the contrary, he emphasized, the coup rhetoric constitutes a de facto split of the official opposition of the country, by those who use it.
Arguing for the need for a political conference before the election of the president, Mr. Ragousis mentioned that the national elections will be held after 2.5 years, so we have plenty of time for reconstruction.
However, since whoever is elected as the new President, it will not be Alexis Tsipras, it is necessary to make major political decisions before the election of a new President.
Otherwise, political division and introversion will continue even after the election of the President. And so the descent will continue.
We will have a lot more turmoil after the President is elected if we don’t have Congress decisions.
Theocharopoulos: After the motion of censure was passed, the situation worsened since the ousted president
He criticized Stefanos Kasselakis from the platform of the Central Committee Thanasis Theocharopoulos, saying that after the motion of impeachment was passed, “the situation got worse from the ousted president.”
“At the previous meeting, the motion of censure was upvoted and therefore it is our collective decision that Stefanos Kasselakis has been fired for everything he has said about the “black funds”, for the continuous construction of internal enemies, the targeting of executives, the division of the party and the parliamentary group , the purges, the liquidation proposals of the party, the production of introversion and parapolitics. This is now the position of our party,” said Mr. Theocharopoulos.
“After the motion of impeachment was passed, the situation worsened with the ousted president. Hoods, diversion, coups, executive targeting and new character assassinations,” he stressed.
Mr. Theocharopoulos asked the Central Committee to decide that insulting reports against the personality of executives and members of the party and even about collective decisions of the bodies, such as “hooded men”, “coups”, “detours”, etc. as well as behaviors and actions that target MPs and party officials are absolutely reprehensible and have nothing to do with the Left.
According to Mr. Theocharopoulos, only the Kasselakis side has requested an increase in signatures that each candidate must collect to 50.
“A motion of censure was made because Kasselakis did not agree to go to the base. The censure is over, now we’re going to the base.
Finally, the goal must be to make SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance strong again in order to play a decisive role in the restructuring of the progressive space with the aim of confronting the socially dangerous government of Mitsotakis”, concluded Mr. Theocharopoulos.
The largest prefectural committee requests the return of Kasselakis to his duties
She made her intervention shortly before the Central Committee meeting began the Prefectural Committee of North Athens of SYRIZAwhich by its resolution, requests the immediate return of Stefanos Kasselakis in his duties and the appeal to the polls for the election of a new Central Committee, which, as he claims, is in obvious disharmony with the base.
In the resolution, which was approved by an absolute majority, NE of North Athens denounces the Central Committee that “with a slim majority of 15 of its members (out of the required limit of 148) and with a completely controversial procedure, it decided to withdraw its confidence in the President of the party ».
“Unfortunately, 163 comrades of the KE ignored the 75,000 who voted for Mr. Kasselakis (9/23) and the overwhelming majority of the 5,000 delegates (2/24) who reaffirmed the base’s trust in the President and through an undemocratic and controversial “secret vote” which was secret for 3/4 and open for 1/4 (telephone call with conference), with the unacceptable excuse “we have done it before or it is customary”, they decide to impeach the President of the party. Unfortunately, comrades, you sowed winds and we will all collect storms”, the resolution emphasizes, among other things.
Divided into 3 in SYRIZA
SYRIZA is going through the worst period in its history since the facts speak for themselves. Divided into three camps, Stefanos Kasselakis, Pavlos Polakis and the “87” walk on a “tight rope”.
The former president of SYRIZA is likely to announce his candidacy at the beginning of the week, while information indicates that Sokratis Famellos is getting closer and closer to taking the next step.
If he decides, the “87” are expected by a majority to approve their descent to the polls.
The climate in Koumoundourou remains toxic and today it will be interesting if an attempt is made to reduce the tones.
Especially for the conditions that a presidential candidate must have.
The new majority did not re-raise the issue of where and the debts to the public in the Political Secretariat. The vote that will take place on the date of the elections will be of interest with Stefanos Kasselakis and Pavlos Polakis joining in the common goal of speeding up the procedures.
The MP from Chania is expected to insist on his proposal to set elections for November 3 and 10. The deadline for filing nominations is September 29, as well as convening an extraordinary conference for Saturday October 5, with the newly elected members.
The atmosphere in the party is warlike
The meeting is being held in the middle of a civil war atmosphere after yesterday’s storm caused by the suspension of Elena Akrita, with her submitting her resignation and the president of KO, Nikos Pappa not accepting it.
and Petros Pappa to succeed against Olga Gerovasilis.
It is noted that today Theodora Tzakri, who is among the supporters of Stefanos Kasselakis, made it known that she will file a lawsuit against Yiannis Ragousis (who has signed up with “87”) for bullying, with the former minister hinting that he will also take action judicially against her.
