Spyros Patsis was prosecuted by the Prosecutor’s Office of Appeals in March 2023, after his immunity was lifted by the Parliament
Request to negotiate with the aim of compromise submitted before the Single-Member Court of Criminal Appeals the former ND MP, Andreas Patsis, accused, together with his former and current wife, for the case concerning inaccurate statements “where you are related” from 2019 to 2022, as well as for participation to a foreign company.
At the start of the proceedings, the former member of parliament, present in court, submitted through his lawyers, who represent both women, a request for negotiation, in accordance with what is defined in the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The court adjourned the proceedings and, as required by law, the first discussion with the prosecutor followed, which takes place behind closed doors in the presence of the prosecutor’s officer and the defendants’ lawyers.
After the discussion, the court reconvened and the prosecutor called “initially receptive to the compromise”. Thus, the court adjourned until next Tuesday, October 1, to determine whether the negotiation process can be completed or whether the trial will continue as normal.
If the negotiation is successful, then the president of the court will announce the amount of the penalty, which cannot be higher than the one agreed in the negotiation process, while in case of no agreement the trial will proceed normally.
Against Mr. Patsis, who was deleted from the ND, a criminal prosecution was brought by the Prosecutor’s Office of Appeals in March 2023, after the removal of his immunity by the Parliament, for the ongoing offenses of inaccurate and incomplete declaration of assets and participation in companies based in foreign countries in person or through a proxy.
