The bill of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance was voted by majority in the Plenary, for its sanction, “Value Added Tax Code”.

ND supported his principle, while SYRIZA together with PASOK declared “present” and the rest of the opposition parties, KKE, EL.LY, New Left, NIKI, Pleussi Eleftherias and Spartans voted against.

Responding to the opposition, which focused its intense criticism on the government’s tax policy, the Deputy Minister of Finance, Christos Dimas, accused it of an anti-popular policy in favor of large business groups and at the expense of ordinary households and small and medium-sized businesses, he countered that the bill concerns exclusively codification of the legislation and does not include any new provision for VAT reform.

At the same time, he stated that “very soon, the new tax bill will be submitted to Parliament, which will provide for significant tax reductions for the relief of taxpayers, and there it will be established which parties mean what they say and will vote for it.”

As Mr. Dimas said, it will include, among other things, a further reduction of ENFIA, the abolition of the business tax for freelancers and the tax for vacant properties, the extension of the VAT suspension on property transfers as well as insurance and tax reductions.
