The Turkish Foreign Minister put on the table the maritime areas, the airspace, the continental shelf and the issues related to the Aegean
“We have a set of problems with Greece,” said Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is coming to Athens for talks with his counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis on November 8.
“There are the maritime areas, the airspace, the continental shelf, the issues related to the Aegean,” he said.
“So there is the task that has been given to the Foreign Ministers on this matter. So with my Greek counterpart, we are really looking for how we can solve this problem in a peaceful way, respecting the rights and interests of our country. Here’s the situation: Both sides show maximum sensitivity when it comes to de-escalation.
There are some incidents from time to time, there are challenges, we also see them as Turkey. But we see that the Mitsotakis government follows an attitude of not raising the tension and continuing the talks in a positive way.
How can we develop this process into practical solutions? There is a set of problems between us: the maritime areas, the air space, the continental shelf, the problem of minorities, the problem of the Turkish minority, the Muslim minority, the problem of religion there, the appointment of the mufti, the problem of education, the positions taken by both countries in Cyprus, the issues related to the Mediterranean, the issues related to the Aegean. There is a view of how we can resolve all of this to the benefit of both countries in a way that both countries can accept.”
Fidan: Our intention is to have positive results for all general problems in the Aegean
“In the Aegean, tranquility is precious. But our army is ready to repel any challenge”
“Our priority is to promote our interests diplomatically”
Hakan Fidan: “We currently see the same approach from the Greek side, both in the prime minister and in my foreign minister counterpart. I hope, God willing, that our efforts will have concrete results, that is our intention. With the help of God to create positive results for the ‘Turkish’ minority in Western Thrace, for all general problems in the Aegean and for the issues in the Mediterranean.
» We have interests both in the Mediterranean and in the Aegean, in the Black Sea, in Africa, in Central Asia, in the Asia-Pacific, all of which we are trying to manage at the same time. And also, when you look at the history of Greece itself, of course, its break with the Ottoman Empire and its attitude to define itself by the other, which is us, is inevitably the main factor in the politics there.
There is already a major war going on in the Black Sea. This tranquility in the Aegean is so precious that we need to act responsibly and consciously here. But everyone knows that our army is ready to repel any challenge. He has been instructed to do so, but our priority is really to advance our interests diplomatically.”
Meanwhile, Turkish Defense Ministry sources denied that Germany had placed conditions on the Eurofighterbroadcast the Manolis Kostidis. In the context of the technical work, no conditions have been set, they said in response to yesterday’s Middle East Eye publication.
Turkish analysts: “There is a threat, the Greeks got Rafale and F-16 – They will also receive F-35. The USA surrounded us from Crete to Cyprus”
MESUT HAKI JASIN- MILITARY ANALYST: There is a huge threat. Greece will start receiving F-35s in about a year. Unfortunately, there is a Greek minister who says they will hit Ankara. And let’s not forget how they bought the Rafale fighters, they also have the F-16 Block-70. Also, the US has 20 bases there. Turkey is surrounded from Crete to Cyprus.
