by

For the first time in decades there were two candidates for ETTU presidency. Mura, deputy president of the European Federation in the previous elections, faced the Hungarian Imre Kovacic. He received 35 votes to his opponent’s 19 and was elected to the top job for the first time, but he was acting as president in place of Igor Levitin after Russia invaded Ukrainian territory and started the war.

At the ETTU 2024 conference, EFOEPA was represented by the chairman of the board, Kostas Papageorgiou.

In addition to a new president, the delegates elected members of the executive board, European members of the ITTF board and a member of the board of appeals.

The Croatian Zoran Primorac (46 votes), the Belgian Didier Leroy (42), the Latvian Ina Josefon (41), the Austrian Jaroslav Kolojecik (31) and the Finnish Sonia Grefberg (29) were voted ETTU vice-presidents.

The agenda also included the vote on a proposal regarding the Europe Top 16 Cup and the use of European rankings in continental competitions.

During the conference, ETTU presented the Badge of Honor award to the president of the All Cyprus Table Tennis Federation, Andreas Georgiou, for his great contribution to the sport. In total there were seven similar awards.

In view of the official changes in leadership, the ETTU Executive Board held its last meeting on the eve of the Congress with its current composition at the venue of the European Championship.

Finally, Costas Papageorgiou had a meeting in Leeds with the representatives from the member countries of the Balkan Sports Union to exchange views on various issues of the BTTU.
