The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport underlined that the ministry aims to replace the paper ticket by the end of the year
“There is a provision that, after 5 years, the average price of the Attica Road will remain at 2.5 euros, but the private individual will have the right to submit a proposal for increases and decreases based on some criteria that have to do with traffic,” he told SKAI and in the show “Kalimera” with Fai Mavragani, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras regarding the reduction in the price of tolls on the Attiki Odos.
“The independent engineer should agree, the government should agree. There is also a right of referral to the European Commission, so that it can be evaluated by them as well”, he clarified.
For the near accident at Suburbanthe Minister of Infrastructure and Transport emphasized that “there was a human error, there was a referral within the institutions before the specific incident was made public. Signaling and remote control also worked there.”
To the agencies involved with rail travel, Mr. Staikouras said that “This is changing in the coming months. We will have one body, the OSE, and underneath it will be the ERGOSE and the section of the GEOSE that has to do with rolling stock. There will be a person responsible for the entire structure of the transportation project. It will be implemented from the beginning of 2025.
Regarding the remote control and signaling systems, Mr. Staikouras underlined that on the Athens-Thessaloniki line they have been operating since the end of August 2023, except for one point that was destroyed by the bad weather Daniel. “We secured money to cover signaling in sections that the country never had, such as Athens – Kiato”, he added.
Referring to the level crossings, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport stated that 25 million euros have been secured so that a tender can be held to build 90 level crossings throughout Greece.
Regarding the railway accidents with falling trees, Mr. Staikouras emphasized that “we took out 6 million euros to deal with the problem holistically, throughout Greece. Workshops will intervene in neighboring areas and the lines”, noting, however, that he has contacted his counterpart the Italian Minister of Transport for the supply of new trains.
Referring to the commission new busesunderlined that “250 buses have arrived. In the next period, and until the end of the summer of 2025, 950 buses will be in circulation”, estimating that by the end of the year, the number of new buses will have reached 400.
Regarding the replacement of the paper ticket with the card, Mr. Staikouras emphasized that “it is being piloted up to the airport, in a satisfactory manner. Our aim is to have it replaced by the end of the year.”
“In the last month, the phenomenon of ticket evasion has significantly decreased, at a rate of 30%-40%”, he noted.
